Trump banned from Twitter

Social media Social media

I normally like to stay clear of politics as much as possible, but this is quite newsworthy. The president of the United States, Donald Trump has been permanently banned from Twitter. His main account (@realDonaldTrump), his campaign account (@TeamTrump) and the (@POTUS) account has been permanently suspended. Twitter said they have carefully reviewed his tweets and banned him on grounds of “the risk of incitement to violence”.

According to twitter the ban is because he tweeted:
“The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!” Followed by “To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.” according to twitter this is “Glorification of Violence” and his account has been suspended.

Donald Trump’s Facebook was also suspended for undetermined amount of time. Donald Trump announced the possibility of starting his own platform.

Speaking of Twitter competition: the Parler-app has been taken down of Google Play. Parler is an alternative to Twitter, but claims to allow free speech, only banning people when they break the law or spam the platform. The Apple play store threatens to kick Parler off it’s platform.

EDIT (1/13): Parler is now banned from Apple’s app store and Amazon Web Service (they hosted Parler) now removed Parler from it’s services. Parler is now offline and is suing Amazon for antitrust violation and breach of contract.
